Networking is the most cited, but least taught professional skill. Having a strong network can get you jobs, but it can also do so much more. In this talk, Mark Herschberg (bio below), will guide you on how to build, maintain, and use a diverse network to help you with challenges both professional and personal. We’ll cover how to approach networking correctly, where to meet people, who you want in your network, and how to build and maintain relationships so they're there for you when you need them.

Speaker Bio
Mark Herschberg is the author of The Career Toolkit: Essential Skills for Success That No One Taught You and creator of the Brain Bump app. From tracking criminals and terrorists on the dark web to creating marketplaces and new authentication systems, Mark has spent his career launching and developing new ventures at startups and Fortune 500s and in academia, with over a dozen patents to his name. He helped to start the Undergraduate Practice Opportunities Program, dubbed MIT’s “career success accelerator,” where he teaches annually. At MIT, he received a B.S. in physics, a B.S. in electrical engineering & computer science, and a M.Eng. in electrical engineering & computer science, focusing on cryptography. At Harvard Business School, Mark helped create a platform used to teach finance at prominent business schools. He also works with many non-profits, currently serving on the board of Plant A Million Corals.
Event Fee: $15 for AWIS members & $20 for non-AWIS members.
Open to All Supporters: You don't have to be a woman to join AWIS. Anyone who believes in gender equity in STEM is welcome to become a member and/or to join this event.
This is a hybrid event. All registrants will receive a Zoom link. The first hour (the talk) will be available both in person and virtually. The interactive exercise will take place in person only, and only in-person attendees will be eligible for the raffle.

Directions: The Onyx Room is on the 1st floor. When you enter, security will be on your right. Turn left, walk past the doors, and the Onyx Room will be on your left. It has transparent glass windows. Parking/Transit: Parking is limited. There’s a garage nearby at Boston Children’s Hospital. Street parking is sometimes available along Huntington Ave and on St Alphonsus St (unmetered).
