About the event

MASS AWIS is offering an opportunity to make professional connections across a variety of career paths. ‘Join Me for Coffee’ gives a chance to meet with a STEM professional for 1 hour online. Participants will not only learn about that person’s career but also establish a new professional connection. These events are a great opportunity for participants to practice networking in an intimate setting, a skill that helps open doors to meaningful careers in STEM. Snacks and beverages will be provided.


The upcoming ‘Join Me for Coffee’ event series will feature Dr. Silva Krause (bio below). If you would like to participate in this ‘Join Me for Coffee’ event, first complete the event application form. A committee will then review all applications and select 4-6 participants for each event. Selected applicants will be notified by email at least one week prior to the event. Upon selection notification, you will be required to formally register for the event and pay the registration fee via our secure website. Selected applicants who fail to complete registration on time forfeit the opportunity to participate.

Silva Krause, PhD
Silva Krause, PhD

 Dr. Silva Krause is currently a Director for Clinical Biomarkers at Vertex Pharmaceuticals where she has been working for almost 3 years.  In her current role, she is responsible for developing and executing on a biomarker strategy for various programs as well as biomarker assay development and validation and implementation of these assays in clinical trials. Dr. Krause is involved in various stages of drug development, ranging from target discovery to supporting translational efforts in the clinic, all the way through and beyond launch. Her role requires cross-functional communication with colleagues from research, development, regulatory and commercial among other groups. Prior to Vertex, Silva worked at Momenta Pharmaceuticals for 5 years as a Translational Scientist and Senior Scientist supporting all assays for their oncology program. Silva earned her Ph.D. in Cell and Developmental Biology at Tufts Graduate School for Biomedical Sciences where she developed a 3-dimensional cell culture model for breast cancer. She then joined Don Ingber’s laboratory at Boston Children’s Hospital and the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering for a postdoctoral fellowship. There, she led two breast cancer projects evaluating an engineering approach using in vitro, in vivo and in silico methods to treat and reverse breast cancer.
