About the event

Join Me for Coffee is a long-running series at MASS AWIS that provides a great opportunity for women in science who are seeking career development or simply inspiration. Participants will not only learn about that person’s career but also establish a new professional connection. These events are a great opportunity for participants to practice networking in an intimate setting, a skill that helps open doors to meaningful careers in STEM.


The upcoming ‘Join Me for Coffee’ event will feature Dr. Lorena Pantano (bio below). If you would like to participate in this ‘Join Me for Coffee’ event, please complete the event application form. A committee will then review all applications and select 6-8 participants for each event. Selected applicants will be notified by email at least one week prior to the event.


Guest Bio


Lorena Pantano’s background is in Biochemistry. She has a Ph.D. in Biomedicine where she developed the first tool to discover small ncRNAs in brain samples using NGS data. She has 13 years of experience in computational biology. Lorena leveraged genomics methods expertise to pioneer research at Harvard School of Public Health for 5 years. She transitioned to Biotech in 2019, and she has been in innovative companies since then. She has focused on cell gene-editing of pig genomes for xenotransplantation during her time at eGenesis, and target discovery of novel non-coding RNA at NextRNA currently. Lorena is a visionary leader in the field, excelling in genomic and data visualization to accelerate decision-making processes. In 2016, she founded ‘Women in Bioinformatics’ Meetup to foster collaboration and networking in computational biology field in the Boston area. In her free time, she likes to build Legos, paint miniatures and read sci-fi/fantasy books written by women.






Event Fee (upon acceptance): $7.50 for AWIS members & $20 for non-AWIS members


Application deadline: Wednesday, April 10th, 2024, 6 PM. Preference will be given to early applicants.
