About the event

Join MASS AWIS at the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts STEM Fest on May 2, 2026, at Camp Cedar Hill in Waltham, MA, for a hands‑on science experience that brings biomaterials to life!

In this interactive activity, participants will create gel‑like beads using sodium alginate and calcium chloride, watching a liquid instantly transform into a soft “solid”. This simple yet powerful demonstration reveals how scientists design materials that mimic human tissues, connecting chemistry, biology, and engineering to real‑world medical innovations.

The festival features dozens of engaging STEM activities led by local professionals and organizations, offering opportunities for Girl Scouts of all levels to explore, experiment, and discover the excitement of science. The complete list of 2026 STEM Fest Activities, including MASS AWIS, is available here! Learn more at gsema.org/stemfest.

Stop by the MASS AWIS table to meet women in STEM, learn about our programs and volunteer opportunities, and experience biomaterials in action!

Reach out at events@massawis.org for questions and/or joining MASS AWIS at the event.
