Open position: Treasurer

Gain leadership & nonprofit experience while supporting women in STEM

Are you interested in developing leadership, budgeting, and nonprofit operations experience? MASS AWIS is looking for a volunteer Treasurer to join our Executive Board. This is an excellent opportunity for students, postdocs, early-career professionals, or anyone interested in learning how nonprofits operate behind the scenes. No prior finance expertise required.

The Treasurer is a member of the executive board. The key role of the Treasurer is to receive all revenues, pay all expenses, maintain financial records, prepare financial reports, file tax return forms to IRS and Attorney General’s office of Massachusetts, and prepare annual budgets.

You do not need to be a finance expert to succeed in this role. We will provide guidance, support, and transition help from the current Treasurer and Executive Board.

Typical Responsibilities

The Treasurer helps support the financial and operational health of MASS AWIS by:

  • Managing chapter income, reimbursements, and payments

  • Maintaining financial records

  • Preparing simple quarterly and annual financial reports

  • Assisting with annual budgeting

  • Helping track membership information

  • Coordinating required nonprofit filings 

Estimated Time Commitment

Approximately 4–6 hours per month on average. Slightly higher during annual reporting periods or major events. Flexible scheduling.
