In our STEM careers, it’s easy to fall into the mindset that we are just doing tasks and lose sight of the ways in which we can invest in our career development and growth. This session seeks to change that “doing” mindset to a focus on continuous learning and self-improvement.

This workshop will cover:

  1. Learning from diverse sources: Strategies for learning from mentors, peers, and collaborators across different disciplines.

  2. 2. Soliciting Feedback: Practical ways individual contributors can take charge of their development by actively seeking feedback.

  3. Optimizing productivity: Techniques to boost productivity and maximize your growth.

The speaker, Jeff Sigel, often jokes that his first job out of college was the toughest marketing job he’s ever had : High school Math and Physics teacher. If you want to find a tough audience and try to sell them something they aren’t sure they want, teaching physics to high schoolers might be a good place to start.

From that early experience, Jeff has built a career around understanding people. The ability to put himself in other peoples shoes; has given him the perspective to develop and coach strong middle management leaders.

Jeff’s career over the past decade has included roles as Vice President of Strategy and Business Intelligence and Vice President of Marketing at the restaurant company Cracker Barrel as well as Vice President of Marketing at grocery retailer Ahold. Prior to those roles, he held various marketing roles at The Hershey Company and Nabisco. He is currently Principal Consultant for Proprioceptive LLC, a consultancy focused on turning strategy into action by developing middle management excellence.

Jeff’s book, “The Middle Matters: A Toolkit for Middle Managers,” focused on helping mid-level leaders become great in their roles, launched this June of 2024!

We will be offering a free signed copy of Jeff’s book to our first 10 applicant attendees!

Jeff holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Physics from Harvard University, a Master’s in Spanish from Middlebury College, and an MBA from the University of Rochester. He lives just outside of Boston, Massachusetts with his wife, two kids, and a small menagerie of pets.
