About the event

Cambridge Science Carnival 2026: Make Your Own Tissue-Like Beads! 🧪

Join MASS AWIS at the Cambridge Science Carnival, a community celebration that brings science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to the public through engaging, hands-on activities and demonstrations.

Stop by our booth for a fun, interactive activity where you’ll create gel-like beads using sodium alginate and calcium chloride. Watch a liquid transform into a soft “solid” and discover how scientists use similar materials to mimic human tissues and develop innovative medical technologies.

Come explore, experiment, and discover the science behind biomaterials! 🔬🧬

Cambridge Science Carnival 2026: Event Recap

MASS AWIS had a wonderful time participating at the Cambridge Science Carnival at the MIT Museum! Our demo, where visitors created tissue-like beads using sodium alginate, was a great success, with at least 200 people stopping by throughout the afternoon to explore and engage with the activity. It was especially exciting to see so much curiosity and enthusiasm from visitors of all ages and to have the opportunity to share the fun of science with the Cambridge community.
