Join me for Coffee: Sarah Isabel Sheikh and Shuchi Mittal from Celgene

MASS AWIS is offering its members an exclusive opportunity to make professional connections across a variety of career paths. ‘Join Me for Coffee’ gives a chance to meet with a STEM professional for 1 hour at a coffee shop or café. Participants will not only learn about that person’s career but also establish a new professional connection. These events are a great opportunity for participants to practice networking in an intimate setting, a skill that helps open doors to meaningful careers in STEM. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

The upcoming ‘Join Me for Coffee’ event series will feature Sarah Isabel Sheikh and Shuchi Mittal. If you would like to participate in this ‘Join Me for Coffee’ event, first complete the event application form. A committee will then review all applications and select 4-6 participants for each event. Selected applicants will be notified by email at least one week prior to the event. Upon selection notification, you will be required to formally register for the event and pay the registration fee via our secure website. Selected applicants who fail to complete registration on time forfeit the opportunity to participate.

Sarah Isabel Sheikh, BM BCh, MSc, MRCP

Executive Director, Translational Neuroscience at Celgene

Sarah currently leads neuroscience translation and early clinical development efforts at Celgene. Before this she was responsible for development programs in neuromuscular rare disease, MS/neuroinflammation and tissue repair/remyelination at Biogen, most recently as Head of the MS/neuroinflammation and tissue repair/remyelination development group.She is a board-certified neurologist and did her internship and residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, both in Boston. Sarah obtained her medical degree and Master’s in Physiology at the University of Oxford, Corpus Christi College, and is a member of the Royal College of Physicians, UK.

Shuchi Mittal, Ph.D.

Scientist, Neuroscience & Imaging at Celgene

Shuchi is currently a Scientist at Celgene Corporation, where she leads Assay development and High Throughput Screening efforts for the Neuroscience drug discovery portfolio. She has rich experience in the field of neurobiology, with a focus on drug discovery and novel target validation for neurodegenerative disorders. Shuchi worked on developing and identifying potential Parkinson’s disease therapeutics during her postdoctoral training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston. She received her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences and Bioengineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India and has authored several publications in high impact peer-reviewed journals. Shuchi has been actively participating in mentorship programs, has been a MASS AWIS mentor, and is a strong supporter for women in science.
