Drug Development 101: An Interactive Workshop

Have you ever wondered what it takes for a drug to make it to the shelves of your local pharmacy? Come join us on September 27th at the Bayer LifeHub for an interactive workshop designed to give you a window into the drug development process!

Participants will take part in a case study where they will manage the Research & Development process for various drug candidates at different development phases. Light snacks and beverages will be served.

Biographies

Marion Hitchcock, PhD

Marion Hitchcock is a Strategic Alliance Manager in Bayer’s Global External Innovation & Alliances group, which serves Drug Discovery & Development in Bayer Pharma R&D. The function’s mission is to provide access to innovation and generate value through innovative partnering and alliance management. In her current role, Marion is responsible for the Strategic Partnership with the Johns Hopkins University, in particular for the ophthalmic research collaboration with the Wilmer Eye Institute in Baltimore/USA, where she oversees a portfolio of 5 joint research projects. Based at Bayer’s East Coast Innovation Center in Cambridge/MA, Marion has spearheaded establishing Bayer’s new East Coast Innovation Center and is engaging with key academic partners as well as members of the local innovation ecosystem. For example, Marion is currently organizing local events, such as Scientific Workshops and AdBoards in the greater Boston area.

Over the past 16 years, Marion has held various positions in R&D at Bayer, giving her a broad research and drug development background. In an earlier role Marion was with Strategy & Portfolio Management as the responsible Franchise Manager for Bayer’s Cardiology & Thrombosis portfolio. Prior to this role, Marion had an active scientific career for over 10 years, as a project leader and lab head in Bayer’s Medicinal Chemistry department in Berlin/Germany, where she gained significant experience in Bayer’s Drug Discovery process along the whole value chain, from target discover and validation to lead optimization and translation to clinical development. During this period she has worked on research projects in the fields of Oncology, Cardiology/Thrombosis, Ophthalmology, Dermatology/Inflammation, Immunology, as well as customized software design.

Marion received her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the Technical University Berlin/Germany, in 1998. Thereafter she conducted her postdoctoral research at the Scripps Research Institute at La Jolla, California and started her industrial scientific career at Bayer in 2000.
